Success after College
It is natural for students to believe that finishing college will help them become more successful. During the process of gaining higher education, students learn to work with large amounts of information and to think in a more systematic and logical way. They gain a powerful analytical mindset and become more skilled in subject-specific areas. However, it remains clear that not every student becomes Elon Musk, Bill Gates, or Mark Zuckerberg. It all depends on the way in which students drive themselves through the studies and in what way they use the resources and possibilities that are available to them during their education process. Below are some recommendations that will help students follow the route towards success after college. Students Should Not Give up all Their Crazy Ideas No matter how insane an idea might seem, it might be worth considering. Sometimes, it turns out to be valuable not in its raw form, but after some thought is given to it. Usually, crazy ideas drive innovation, and the craziest ones revolutionize the world. Students should learn to look at things under a different angle, make experiments when working on projects on their own or with groupmates. They should take unlikely extravagant subjects and combine ideas which seem incompatible. The famous psychiatrist Sigmund Freud facilitated most obscure primary thoughts and fantasies, as he believed that they hold a key to the truth. Students Should Face Their Fears and Take Risks There is always a chance of failing, but one will never know until he or she acts. Students should never base their decisions on how safe the idea is; they do not have this kind of responsibility yet that limits their moves. They should try to step off the beaten path and search for answers where few have searched before, while not being afraid of finding nothing. Whether it is an ambitious research project, exchange program, or an internship, there is always more to gain than to lose. Students Should Never Stop Learning The more one knows, the better one understands how things work, and the more one becomes aware of all the possibilities. A student should consider researching areas beyond his or her subject; they might become successful in a field they do not know about yet. This is why there are elective courses; and students are encouraged to grab the opportunity and take as many as they can. Students Should Know That There Is Always a Lot to Learn This means always questioning oneself and oneââ¬â¢s own knowledge. Rather than making assumptions, it is much more important to search for answers and evidence, and this is what academic writing is about. There is no limit to human knowledge, and self-development should be the priority of every student. Students Should Look up to Their Successful Role Models To be able to do this, they need to surround themselves with people who inspire them first. Opportunities can be found in attending lectures by opinion leaders, famous researchers, powerful talkers, or in talking to professors the students admire the most. Firstly, this will allow the students to share ideas and thoughts with them; secondly, they will make useful connections that might be decisive at some point in the future. One of the most famous Henry Fordââ¬â¢s quotes is, ââ¬Å"If I had asked people what they wanted, they would have said faster horses.â⬠It can sum up the contrast between the innovative and successful people, and the rest. In reality, it does not take too much to learn every day or change the perspective occasionally when looking at familiar things. In fact, the more people know, the better they understand how little they know, and the more hungry for information they are. College is a perfect place to acquire tons of information daily, to experiment with practical applications of knowledge, and to develop new ideas with peers and inspirers. It is up to every student whether he or she will use these opportunities or not in order to drive themselves into success.

Causes of Cyberbullying - Free Essay Example
Sample details Pages: 2 Words: 689 Downloads: 3 Date added: 2019/02/15 Category Society Essay Level High school Tags: Bullying Essay Cyber Bullying Essay Did you like this example? We canââ¬â¢t deny the fact that cyber-bullying is becoming more and more of an issue, as new online platforms are being created. Simply put, bullies now can be bullies in a lot more places. Cyber-bullying can certainly be devastating and harmful to oneââ¬â¢s mental health as an effect, also the affects it has on a personââ¬â¢s future. Many people suffer from psychological issues due to being bullied in person or through a virtual platform, but what Iââ¬â¢m interested in is the cause of Cyber-bullying or bullying in general not the effects. What makes a bully who he is? We all have thought about it. Why would a person go out of his way to cause misery and sadness to others? Well reasons do vary from person to another, but all of them have something in common which is problems. Yes, problems are what creates the bully, whether they are family, social or even mental problems. According to Dr. Martyn Wild a cyber safety expert saysâ⬠Cyber-bullying is poised to turn into the biggest online concern, already affecting up to 35% of all children.â⬠One more thing Cyber-bullies share is cowardness, they all hide behind a screen or a phone may it be a 20th century computer screen. Itââ¬â¢s the fact that they are anonymous and arenââ¬â¢t physically involved is what makes them comfortable doing what they do. Donââ¬â¢t waste time! Our writers will create an original "Causes of Cyberbullying" essay for you Create order It has been proven that family issues are one of the major causes of bullying, albeit face to face or cyber bullying. For instance, problems within a household can affect the behavior of individuals in the outside world. To illustrate, a bad divorce could be a cause where the parents are not raising their children properly or not giving them the attention they need. Which might lead to the feeling of being unrecognized and cause need of attention. Moreover, abuse or suppression can feed a person plenty of negative feelings and cause them mental problems and resulting in an emotional discharge, that can be translated to hurting others physically or in an incorporeal manner through the media or online. It is believed by many that the brain plays a role in this matter, whether itââ¬â¢s through mental problems or fulfilling oneââ¬â¢s desires and satisfying oneââ¬â¢s ego. What I think is a cause too is superiority complex which is a disorder that makes a person insecure and anxious about their shortcomings and weaknesses, consequently harassing others to hide where they lack. Another related matter is ââ¬Å"schadenfreudeâ⬠which means according to Wikipedia ââ¬Å"is the experience of pleasure, joy, or self-satisfaction that comes from learning of or witnessing the troubles, failures, or humiliation of another.â⬠That alone is a problem that needs fixing and a solution of its own. Some might say these issues are related to social status and social relations, and that takes us to the next cause. Establishing social relations in the real world or the social media might push people to bully others, be it to draw attention or to maintain popularity. Simply put, it is to hide a personââ¬â¢s failure by pointing out otherââ¬â¢s failures and showing superiority over others, and that brings us back to the ââ¬Å"superiority complexâ⬠. A lot of the times itââ¬â¢s just a simple feeling like envy, that alone could push some to harass and hinder said personââ¬â¢s reputation, just to take them down and take away what they have from them. To conclude, we can categorize the causes to two categories personal and social, and the latter could be divided to two parts. The first, family limited and the second, with society online or offline. Also, bullies are the result of conflict, whether itââ¬â¢s mental or social, so letââ¬â¢s not fight fire with fire by blaming it all on the bullies themselves. In the end, we can see that the bullies are not always the convicts, sometimes they are victims of lifeââ¬â¢s bullying. We should broaden our view on matters such as this matter to see the whole picture and make a righteous and just judgement without discriminating any side.

Missouri V. Mcneely ( 2013 ) - 1609 Words
Missouri v. McNeely(2013) was a case decided by the US Supreme Court on an appeal from the Supreme Court in Missouri, regarding exceptions to the Fourth Amendment under exigent circumstances. On October 3, 2010, Tyler Gabriel McNeely was stopped by a police officer in Missouri for speeding and crossing over a centerline. The police officer asked McNeely if he could take a breath test to measure his blood alcohol level because he had noticed signs of intoxication, including bloodshot eyes, slurred speech, and the smell of alcohol. After refusing to take the breath test, McNeely was arrested and taken to a nearby hospital so they could do a blood test. McNeely refused, but the officer still told a lab technician to take his blood. His blood alcohol level tested far above the legal limit, and he was later charged with driving under the influence. He later argued that the taking of his blood without consent violated his Fourth Amendment rights in which the court agreed. I found this cas e interesting because we see a lot of drunk driving today and it s an uneasy feeling knowing that drunk drivers could possibly get away with the crime they are committing since it may take a while for an officer to get a warrant. I would like to see the stages that the Supreme Court went through to get to the decision they came up with. Chasing Yesterday by Noel Gallaghers High Flying Birds free essay sample
Noel Gallagher knows what it is like to be on top of the world. ââ¬Å"The Chiefâ⬠or ââ¬Å"The Godlike Geniusâ⬠, as he is fondly called by the Oasis faithful, is one of the pinnacles of British rock ââ¬Ënââ¬â¢ roll. After founding the band Oasis, together he and his brother Liam took over his native island like a storm. It wasnââ¬â¢t uncommon to hear the group being referred to as the next Beatles. In fact, at their peak in the late 90ââ¬â¢s, the band was overwhelming voted the biggest band in history over the likes of The Beatles, The Rolling Stones, and Led Zeppelin by many tabloids. To this day, Oasis still retains the title of fastest selling album (Be Here Now, 1997) in British history. Their most popular song, ââ¬Å"Wonderwallâ⬠, still makes an occasional radio appearance today. Now that nearly twenty years have come and gone since the golden age of Britpop, Gallagher is no longer the hero of rock that he once was. The 2000ââ¬â¢s proved to be a dark age for Oasis, which saw the band halfheartedly put out mediocre albums and experience declining popularity. The group disbanded for good in 2009 after a dispute over flying fruit. Nowadays, itââ¬â¢s not uncommon to see Gallagher spending his time sitting back watching Manchester City soccer games on television, admiring his collection of trainers, or taking shots at todayââ¬â¢s biggest music stars such as Taylor Swift, Kanye West, and Alex Turner. According to Gallagher, heââ¬â¢d ââ¬Å"rather drink petrol straight from the nozzle at a garageâ⬠than listen to any interview featuring Turner. Based on these instances alone, one would assume he is bitter about his current situation. Surely he must have a nostalgic longing for the good old days when Oasis was still the king of music. But free from the strings that attached him in Oasis, the middle aged rocker seems to have found new life. According to critics, Gallagherââ¬â¢s 2011 debut solo album was his best work since the turn of the century. Because of this, and despite the name of his new album, ââ¬Å"Chasing Yesterdayâ⬠, he isnââ¬â¢t looking back to the fame nor the sound of his past. Heââ¬â¢s been there, done that. Now Gallagher considers himself to be an explorer, journeying through the fresh and modern terrain of alternative music.Throughout the album, he finds himself combining instruments and vibrant sounds in ways that were once impossible with Oasis. The album proves to be enchanting, and truly a breath of fresh air for the Manchester native. ââ¬Å"Chasing Yesterdayâ⬠begins with one of its most complete tracks, ââ¬Å"Rivermanâ⬠. The relaxed, dreamy flow of the song indeed prompts the listener to think of a rolling river. ââ¬Å"All of the love that was left behind is gonelike a memory that fades, she disappears again,â⬠sings Gallagher. It is at this moment where the true significance of the albumââ¬â¢s title it i s first revealed. Gallagher is not chasing fame and fortune. He seeks youth and lost love. Gallagher finds his most emotional moment on ââ¬Å"The Dying Of The Lightâ⬠, which in turn brings out the best in him. The song seems destined to go down as one of Gallagherââ¬â¢s classic songs, mirroring the gentle cries of love from ââ¬Å"If I Had A Gunâ⬠before it. ââ¬Å"Behind me lie the years that I misspentI was told that the streets were paved with gold and there would be no time for getting old when we were young,â⬠he sings, looking back on his youth. Gallagher has always been a lyrical genius, and he continues to find his writing rhythm on this track. ââ¬Å"Weââ¬â¢ll fight the dying of the light and catch the sun,â⬠may be as fine a lyric as he has ever penned. The album also features many other elaborate gems that stretch the boundaries of Gallagherââ¬â¢s musical imagination. ââ¬Å"The Ballad of The Mighty Iâ⬠, for example, seems to glide with a continuous wave of energetic pulses. It is on this song where fellow rock legend Johnny Marr, formerly of The Smiths, makes his appearance. Marr blankets his sound behind Gallagherââ¬â¢s vast collection of instrumentals, but plays a crucial role in the rhythm of the song. ââ¬Å"The Right Stuffâ⬠may be the most uncharacteristic song in Gallagherââ¬â¢s career. He takes great pride in the fact that he managed to incorporate ââ¬Å"space jazzâ⬠on the track, along with the occasional injection of electric guitar shocks. What is most unusual about the song is that Gallagher duets with a female singer, which he had never attempted before. ââ¬Å"You and I got the right the right stuff,â⬠they whisper. After becoming lost in the songââ¬â¢s tender melody, itââ¬â¢s hard to argue with them. Despite his new direction, Gallagher hasnââ¬â¢t completely forgotten about his days with Oasis. Many of the songs on the album, including ââ¬Å"Lock All The Doorsâ⬠and ââ¬Å"Revolution Songâ⬠, have roots tracing back to the 90ââ¬â¢s. ââ¬Å"Lock All The Doorsâ⬠, once a demo for Oasis, was abandoned because of Gallagherââ¬â¢s inability to find a complement to the chorus. Now that it has resurfaced, the sounds of ââ¬Å"Definitely Maybeâ⬠within it remain apparent. In fact, itââ¬â¢s buzzing guitar and energy seem to be the perfect fit for the vocals of Gallagherââ¬â¢s younger brother, Liam. It shows just how much Liam, the former frontman and primary singer for Oasis, continues to loom over Noel. In ââ¬Å"Chasing Yesterdayâ⬠, Gallagher has rediscovered his creative spirit. The production, done by Gallagher himself, is impressive. The new, smooth, alternative direction that he has chosen to pursue has led him to a new tomorrow, and a true career revival. As of Monday, the album became the fastest selling album of 2015 and rose to number one in the UK charts. There has been little love lost for Gallagher in his h ome country. Itââ¬â¢s true that the times when he held absolute power over the entire British music scene are long gone, but maybe thatââ¬â¢s just fine with him. Perhaps Gallagher says it best when he sings, ââ¬Å"itââ¬â¢s alright, you know we canââ¬â¢t go back.ââ¬

Title of the Paper Essays - , Term Papers
Title of the Paper (Interpersonal Communication and Paralanguage ) Submitted By ( Kadeejah Johnson, [emailprotected] ) Number and Name of Course (Oral Communication - COMM 101) Class Meeting Time/Day (M/W/F: 9:00 A.M. - 9:50 A .M.) Professor (Dr. Ephraim Okoro ) Semester (Fall 2016) Today's Date (Monday October 10 , 2016) Bowie State University Department of Communications Bowie, Maryland Pat was the only person I could talk to, the only person I could think about and was one of my best friends. I could tell him what happened and he would be able to tell me what I said right back, my expressions and all. He was my better half, and the only person in the world I could get lost in time with and not care to come back. The fateful day he asked me to marry him, and that's when I knew he wanted to be my best friend forever. I made a promise that my yes, meant that my only attention would be on him, and the only person I communicate with and feel myself getting lost in conversations with. I made that promise to him, but there had been a time when I forgot how to love him, and I forgot how to be a good woman to him. I decided one day that I did not want to get engaged anymore, I found a new passion, I found a new love, and I started to notice that Pat notice too. I found that my advances to say that I was no longer in love, and am no longer able to be that woman for him, the one he still enjoyed waking up to in the morning even until this day. The best way that I knew I could was if I told him in my private time, in my time of most desperation, I found myself so in love with this new guy that to know that I would have to go back to sleep next to Pat would make me feel vulgar. I couldn't stand the temptation to sneak out when Pat would go to sleep anymore, I couldn't live with myself anymore when he would look at me and tell something was wrong, but I would say nothing. The lies would continue to tear me in half evenly and then I found my passage; the only way to actual put my plan into action was to go out dramatically. I found it unfair that I would have to get my friend involved, which I know is a terrible mistake, what is a girl to do? The friend that I had been seeing has a degree in Mass Communication, and in that he agrees that there is a better way to let Pat know that the feelings I once had for him had went away, and that there is something that is out there better for us. This is what caught my attention from this guy, his understanding of evaluating paralanguage and being able to express my feelings without exhorting Pat, and leaving him vulnerable. I found that according to (hunterfact, 2015), "Paralanguage that takes place in the face-to-face communication has been said to make it difficult for an individual to hide real feelings or emotions." When heading in with the need to tell someone that I am no longer interested in being engaged would change everything for me. I know from this that I do not have a choice in telling him in person. Paralanguage leaves me vulnerable, it leaves us both in that state, and it also leaves us upset and hurt. I am very aware that doing it through the man that I have found l ove with now, is a gamble but it is one that I am willing to take. Paralanguage is the most difficult form of communication in terms of telling someone that they are not the love that they thought they wanted. It also allows us to feel that vulnerability in the issue as well as being able to tell the difference between being able to love someone, and temptation. It is the fear of allowing communication to cause fear, and to hide a serious conversation only causes more fear within.
